The synthetase gene of the RNA phages R17, MS2 and f2 has a single UAG terminator codon

摘要: Translation of the RNA from wild-type bacteriophages R17, MS2, and f2 in bacterial cell-free extracts containing an amber suppressor yields 30-40% synthetase with approximate molecular weight 63 500, slightly larger than major product (63 000 daltons). The occurrence 500 dalton vitro is dependent on presence suppressor, we predict that it due to read-through a UAG termination codon at end gene. Previous results Capecchi Klein (Nature, 226, 1029-1033, 1070) showed antibodies both release factors RF1 RF2 are required block synthetase, suggesting released UAA codon. If interpretations experiments correct, may not be synonomous spatially separated. In addition there unexplained fact 7% made su+ su- either MS2 or as template has apparent 66 000.
