摘要: Worldwide bacterial meningitis accounts for more than one million cases and 135,000 deaths annually. Profound, lasting neurological complications occur in 9-25% of cases. This review confirms the greatest risk from is early life Malaysia. Much disease burden can be avoided by immunization, particularly against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) Streptococcus pneumoniae. Despite inclusion Hib vaccine National Immunisation Programme licensure pneumococcal vaccines, these two species are main contributors to Malaysia, with Neisseria meningitidis Mycobacterium tuberculosis, causing a smaller proportion disease. The high prevalence may partly due dated, small-scale studies limiting understanding current epidemiological situation. highlights need larger, better quality surveillance Malaysia evaluate success immunization help guide policy vaccines S. pneumoniae N. meningitidis.
