Self-reported health-related quality of life in children and adolescents with myelomeningocele

摘要: The aim of the study was to investigate self-reported health-related quality life (HRQOL) in children and adolescents with myelomeningocele (MMC) examine impact clinical impairments limitations activities daily living (ADL). Fifty patients (28 females, 22 males) between 8 16 years age (mean 12y 1mo [SD 2y 4mo]) MMC from three German paediatric centres their mothers completed standardized measures on HRQOL (KINDL-R) ADL (Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire). Lesion level thoracic nine, sacral 25, lumbosacral 11 patients. Twenty-one were community walkers, 17 able walk home, seven used a wheelchair. Two-thirds had health problems related central nervous system causing current difficulties (eight shunt, six hydrocephalus, 10 tethered cord). Patients group reported diminished overall compared norm data, specifically dimensions emotional well-being, self-esteem, peer relations. Adolescents dimension Most medical parameters as well not significantly associated HRQOL. Our findings confirm results studies which dispute linear inverse association condition severity emphasize importance relations young MMC.
