摘要: Cordierite Mg2Al4Si5O18 is a material for diesel particulate filters (DPF) with high potential. Its resistance to simplified model ash has been tested on single crystals at temperatures up 1050°C, which are realistic use under ‘worst case’ conditions. A mixture of Ca, Mg and Zn phosphates, typical main constituents many DPF ashes, was used as ash. Single were examined in order investigate the orientation dependence attack due strongly anisotropic nature crystal lattice. Strong corrosion by occurs 1050 °C, connected excessive melting. The molten attacks fast dissolution substrate melt (super)saturation within minutes. Anisotropy process could not be detected. initial kinetics dominated saturation effects, slow down corrosion. saturated reaction processes leading formation new crystalline phases. This much slower than but may significantly contribute destruction substrates if large contact areas between exist.
