摘要: Background:  Hypoxia is a common feature of many cancers. It contributes to local and systemic tumour progression as well potentially compromising radiotherapy chemotherapy. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) an essential component in changing the transcriptional response tumours under hypoxia. targets transcription over 60 genes involved aspects cancer biology including cell survival, glucose metabolism, invasion angiogenesis. Methods:  In this review, we discuss relevant literature on HIF-1α with specific emphasis oral cancer. We also present some our preliminary data cancer. Results:  Although there are few conflicting reports its prognostic significance, expression seems play adverse role malignant head neck by facilitating adaptation cells hypoxia contributing invasive properties angiogenesis these tumours. Conclusions:  has important pathophysiology cancer, both normal hypoxic conditions. The pharmacological manipulation marked effects growth, it could prove be target for drug therapy, other hypoxia-dependent disease states.
