摘要: The paper reviews carbothermal processing of silicon carbide from silica and carbon discusses the reaction mechanisms proposed in literature. To elucidate questions about this mechanism diffusion couple experiments are described Si against C SiO2 at 1350°C. From these it is concluded that low temperature gas-solid reactions major importance for process, while solid-solid interactions give only a small contribution.
