摘要: Population genetics studies on non-model organisms typically involve sampling few markers from multiple individuals. Next-generation sequencing approaches open up the possibility of many more fewer individuals to address same questions. Here, we applied a target gene capture method deep sequence ~1000 independent autosomal regions organism, blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus). We devised scheme based predictions theoretical metapopulations show that individuals, but loci, can be extremely informative reconstruct evolutionary history species. collected data single deme (SID) Northern Australia and scattered representing various locations throughout Indian Ocean (SCD). explored genealogical signature population dynamics detected both schemes using an ABC algorithm. then contrasted these results with those obtained by fitting non-equilibrium finite island model. Both supported Nm value ~40, consistent philopatry in this Finally, demonstrate through simulation exhibit greater resilience recent changes effective size compared unstructured populations. propose empirical approach detect bottlenecks our scheme.
