Sustainability Gaps in Municipal Solid Waste Management: The Case of Landfills

摘要: Abstract : Our paper compares external effects of two municipal solid waste disposal technologies, bioreactor and dry tomb landfills, in a 600-year time-horizon using different discounting techniques: Constant conventional Generation Adjusted Discounting (GAD). The starts with short description the basic characteristics landfill-types. To demonstrate sustainability deficiencies constant gaps are defined calculated. Reference case for these calculations is GAD which takes into account requirements sustainable development, namely inter-generational equity. show that usually uses too high discount rates to be accordance fundamental criteria leading biased political suggestions. However, our approach not solely restricted landfills. It could used as guide quickly check whether results social cost-benefit analyses long-term public projects criteria.
