摘要: The monitoring of the pollution status Brazilian coast is hampered by lack a consistent environmental indicator. We propose Hg as an proxy to anthropogenic coastal regions due its absence in geology, ubiquity effluents, and toxicity. Available data suggest "backgrounds" sediments 1-10 ng g-1, East 15-30 g-1 South. short sediment cores establish these values estimating geo-accumulation index compare all areas. distribution showed majority southern at least moderately contaminated whereas many eastern areas are still pristine.
