摘要: Although satellite-based variables have for long been expected to be key components a unified and global biodiversity monitoring strategy, definitive agreed list of these still remains elusive. The growth interest in observable from space has partly underpinned by the development essential variable (EBV) framework Group on Earth Observations – Biodiversity Observation Network, which itself was guided process identifying climate variables. This contribution aims advance strategy updating previously published definition EBV, providing satellite remote sensing (SRS) EBVs introducing set principles that are believed necessary if ecologists agencies agree can routinely monitored space. Progress toward identification SRS-EBVs will require clear understanding what makes essential, as well agreement who users are. Technological algorithmic developments rapidly expanding opportunities SRS biodiversity, so is likely evolve over time. means common platform data providers, ecologists, environmental managers, policy makers experts interact share ideas needs identified support long-term coordinated actions.
