A highly selective two-stage isolation method for the enumeration of Staphylococcus aureus in foods

摘要: A plate method for enumerating Staphylococcus aureus is described which combines a 1-h recovery period stressed cells on relatively non-selective Baird-Parker agar base followed by 24-h growth phase in highly selective, supplemented medium added as an overlay. Tests with pure cultures showed satisfactory of Staph. and other bacteria. Similar results were obtained the conventional procedure two-stage isolation shrimps poultry neck skins, but raw minced meat, recoveries higher combined than medium. All colonies visible after 24 h can be counted aureus, whereas longer incubation times confirmatory tests are necessary to differentiate it from organisms medium.
