摘要: The Bay of Biscay anchovy has experienced, since 2001, a succession low recruitments, resulting in the collapse stock 2005; this led to successive closures fishery. This study investigates possible impact different controlling factors [North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), East (EA) pattern, turbulence, upwelling, and river flow] upon recruitment fishery catches. Fifty-five percent variability can be explained by upwelling over spawning area; is related, turn, EA pattern. conceptual understanding system proposed for suggests that negative periods are associated with northeasterly wind circulation, which produces weak continental shelf. pattern results hydrodynamic stability area, leading, probably, adequate food availability. A positive (which extends onwards, from 1998) southwesterly winds downwelling shelf; leads, dispersion larvae, together increasing mortality.
