摘要: Personality exists in non-human animals and can impact fitness. There is, however, a shortage of empirical studies certain areas within the field, fundamental evolutionary theory on personality remains largely untested. For example, little is known how variation maintained over time. Theory suggests that fluctuating selection pressures due to spatiotemporal conditions, e.g. food availability, possible mechanism few have shown success different types varies with conditions. However, it unknown whether mechanisms maintain species. Here we use reintroduction programme for critically endangered European mink (Mustela lutreola) test multiple trait domains (boldness, exploration sociability) affected survival two years islands. This was done through pre-release tests post-release radio-tracking monitoring. Survival positively correlated boldness, whereas relationship either negative or positive depending year/island. The results show complex between suggest be time via contrast exploration, boldness did not vary spatiotemporally sociability had no survival. indicates might by mechanisms. To date, has been studied primarily behavioural sciences, but findings highlight importance also ecology conservation biology.
