摘要: Global translocation of plants and animals is a well-recognized mechanism for introduction pathogens into new regions. To mitigate this risk, various tools such as preshipment health certificates, quarantines, screening specific disease agents outright bans have been implemented. However, measures only target known infectious their hosts may fail to prevent even if they are carried by novel host species. In recent example, we screened an imported shipment Chinese firebelly newts (Cynops orientalis) Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans, emergent fungal pathogen salamanders. All tested negative the fungus. virus was cultured from internal organs 7 11 individual dead salamanders two pools tissues four additional animals. Sequencing portion glycoprotein gene all viral isolates indicated 100% identity that were most closely related spring viraemia carp (SVCV). Subsequently, SVCV-specific PCR testing presence in each previously pooled, whole-genome sequencing one confirmed genomic arrangement characteristic SVCV. SVCV rhabdovirus cyprinid fish listed notifiable Office International des Epizooties. This discovery reveals route potential spillover economically important has not documented amphibians.
