摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the individual cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers, with focus on both their implications for AIDS dementia complex (ADC) pathogenesis and current or potential future use clinical management, including diagnosis, assessment of disease activity, prognosis, response to anti-HIV treatments. The analysis CSF is among most important procedures in diagnosis central nervous system (CNS) infections. can directly identify underlying etiological agent, it also characterize specific local immune responses that establish etiology predict prognosis. markers are divided into three groups related major components process ultimately leading ADC: (1) viral (2) host-response (3) indicators CNS tissue damage. further according main role immune-activation neurotoxic molecules, apoptosis. A number techniques available HIV detection CSF—including virus culture, antigen detection, nucleic-acid measurement—are discussed chapter.
