摘要: Impressive strides are being made in the understanding of trace element metabolism and function. This is underscored by many contributions these proceedings. However, not so impressive are: i) precise recognition mild deficiencies how to establish their functional consequences, possibly confounded concurrent inadequacies, difficult assess, ii) approaches quantitative determination requirements for elements remain unsatisfactory archaic, ways, iii) our extent biological basis variation among apparently similar individuals poor, iv) much needs be leamed about which genetic, epigenetic dietary factors interact determine nutritional phenotype. Some ideas presented as we might embrace, context a reconstructive approach, exciting new knowledge related techniques emerging during postgenome era develop paradigms assessing status, establishing effective nutrient intake under different conditions complex genotype-environment interactions. Metabolites cellular entities I also urge vigorous application metabolomics metabolic profiling that closely linked with genomics, proteomics, kinetics system analysis, components integrative paradigm. We need understand its strategy, only molecular details component parts individual controls. An interdisciplinary research teaching enterprise will necessary best achieve this aim. All common goal promote, through expanded application, enhanced role human well-being.
