摘要: This study used the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction method to determine mRNA of subgingival human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) in six adult and three localized juvenile periodontitis patients. The oligonucleotide primers targeted major capsid protein gene active HCMV infection. transcript was detected deep periodontal pockets two patients but not any shallow sites. findings suggest that replication can occur Further studies are necessary establish whether reactivation correlates with initiation or progression destructive disease.
