摘要: A common approach to the conservation of farmland biodiversity and promotion multifunctional landscapes, particularly in landscapes containing only small remnants non-crop habitats, has been maintain landscape heterogeneity reduce land-use intensity. In contrast, it recently shown that devoting specific areas habitats conservation, segregated from high-yielding (‘land sparing’), can more effectively conserve than promoting low-yielding, less intensively managed occupying larger sharing’). present paper we suggest debate over relative merits land sparing or sharing is partly blurred by differing spatial scales at which suggested should be applied. We argue there no single correct scale for segregating protection commodity production landscapes. Instead propose an alternative conceptual construct, call ‘multiple-scale sparing’, targeting ecosystem services transformed discuss how multiple-scale may overcome apparent dichotomy between help find acceptable compromises multifunctionality.
