Summary: The effect of four antineoplastic agents1) on the growth and ultrastructure yeast Candida albicans was investigated. Growth MIC studies showed that two drugs produced inhibition, with thiotepa being more active than methotrexate. Furthermore, SEM both these caused morphological changes. Methotrexate induced germtube production resulting in transformation from to hyphal form. Thiotepa cell lysis. other drugs, VIS ENA, little or no significant alterations gross morphology inhibition. It is proposed affect cellular DNA but subtly different ways manifestations morphology. frequent occurrence aberrant filamentous yeasts cancer patients may be due result chemotherapy.
