摘要: Background: Periodontal infections, which serve as a reservoir of inflammatory mediators, may pose threat to the fetal-placental unit and cause adverse pregnancy outcomes. Objective: The aim this study was assessing periodontal status women during puerperium determining possible relationship between their disease low birth weight delivery. Materials Methods: This case-control study. sample included 88 ex-pregnant were seen at maternity hospitals Yazd, Iran. Half mothers had babies (LBW) (birth below 2500g- case group) others normal (>2500g- control group). mothers’ data obtained from medical files, interview clinical examination carried out up 3 days after delivery. Bleeding on probing, presence supra-gingival calculus CPITN (Community Index for Treatment Needs) used assessment Results: Among known risk factors LBW babies, history previous infant among reached statistical significance (p=0.0081, Student t-test). Mothers infants less healthy areas gingiva (p=0.042), more deep pockets (p=0.0006, Mann-Whitney test). Conclusion: maternal can be potential independent factor LBW.
