Substance use in the club scene of Rome: a pilot study

摘要: Objective. Over the last few years, a wide number of unregulated substances have been marketed on Web and in smart head shops; they are usually advertised as legal alternatives to commonly known drugs defined “smart drugs,” “legal highs,” “novel psychoactive substances” (NPS). Aim our work is describe use habits distribution NPS population young adults Rome club scene. Methods. A self-administered questionnaire was proposed subjects over 18 years age at entrance 5 nightclubs Rome. Socioeconomic characteristics substance were investigated. Results. Preliminary results give evidence that 78% respondents lifetime history use. In addition, 56% sample has consumed illicit past 39% used 12 hours preceding administration. Conclusions. significant proportion report novel substances; traditional consumption, particularly cocaine, appears be very high well These data highlight serious public health challenge, since pharmacological, toxicological, psychopathological effects linked interactions among all these may unpredictable sometimes fatal vulnerable individuals.
