摘要: Since its original cloning by subtraction hybridization in 2002, it is now evident that Astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG-1) a key contributor to the carcinogenic process diverse organs. AEG-1 protein expression advanced stages of many cancers, which correlates with poor survival. In specific such as breast and liver cancer, gene itself amplified, further supporting seminal role tumorigenesis. Overexpression inhibition studies both vitro vivo models reveal importance regulating multiple physiologically pathologically relevant processes including proliferation, invasion, metastasis, expression. single-pass transmembrane nuclear localization signals no known domains or motifs. Although pertinent roles are established, potential function (promotion metastasis only versus functioning bona fide oncogene) well (cell surface nucleus) remain areas requiring clarification. The present review critically evaluates what currently about provides new perspectives relative this intriguing molecule may provide rational target for intervening cancer phenotype.
