摘要: Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is commonly associated with tobacco alcohol exposures, although dietary factors, particularly folate, human papillomavirus, are also risk factors. Epigenetic alterations increasingly implicated in the initiation progression of cancer. Genome-wide (global) hypomethylation seems to occur early neoplasia a feature genomic DNA derived from solid tumor tissues, including HNSCC. This study aimed determine whether global methylation whole blood, proxy tissue, HNSCC assess potential modification this property by environmental or behavioral factors. Methods: Global levels were assessed using modified version combined bisulfite restriction analysis LRE1 sequence population-based case-control Boston area. Results: Hypomethylation lead significant 1.6-fold increased for disease (95% confidence interval, 1.1-2.4), models controlled other Smoking showed differential effect ( P < 0.03) on blood relative between cases controls. Furthermore, cases, variant genotype MTHFR gene low folate intake relationships decreased methylation, whereas controls, antibody response papillomavirus 16 was an level. Discussion: nontarget tissue independently had complex relationship known factors genesis (Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev 2007;16(1):108–14)
