Long‐term evaluation of fluoroelastomer O‐rings in UF6

摘要: A major component in the gaseous centrifuge enrichment plant (GCEP) was fluoroelastomer O‐rings, which were used to seal uranium hexafluoride (UF6) gas system. program utilizing accelerated test conditions help identify best material out of four selected candidates and predict service life these materials at GCEP conditions. The tests included temperatures, mechanical stress, UF6 exposure. Data evaluated using Newman–Keuls1 ranking system a zero‐order reaction rate equation life. This presentation includes description facility, tested, types tests, objectives study, predictions, conclusions. O‐rings are predicted last ∼30 years , high‐molecular‐weight polymer had performance ranking.
