摘要: The extent to which plasma levels of angiogenic factors in healthy individuals and tumour volume-related variations colorectal cancer affect the accuracy circulating as predictors vascularity is unknown. We used enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay measure vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) basic fibroblast (bFGF) liver metastasis (CLM) patients, ‘no cancer’ controls. CLM volume was determined from computerized tomography scans, vessel count anti-endothelial antibody-stained biopsies. There a significant (P = 0.03) increase VEGF level 29 patients (median 180.3 pg ml−1, iqr 132.5–284.8 ml−1) compared with 19 controls 125.8 58.2–235.9 ml−1). were correlations between (r 0.66, P 0.03), 0.59, 0.53, 0.03). A upper quartile distribution had 70% sensitivity 75% specificity predicting an count. No relation identified bFGF levels. Plasma predicted vascularity, despite overlap normal variations. © 2000 Cancer Research Campaign
