Bioactivity, mechanical properties and drug delivery ability of bioactive glass-ceramic scaffolds coated with a natural-derived polymer

摘要: Abstract In this work, hybrid melanin-coated bioactive glass-ceramic multifunctional scaffolds were developed and characterized in terms of mechanical strength, vitro bioactivity simulated body fluid (SBF) ability to load ibuprofen. The coated exhibited an accelerated comparison with the uncoated ones, being able developing hydroxyapatite-like crystals after 7 days soaking (SBF). Besides its positive influence on bioactivity, melanin coating was enhance their properties, increasing initial compressive strength by a factor > 2.5. Furthermore, ibuprofen successfully loaded coating, allowing controlled drug release anti-inflammatory agent.
