摘要: Study objectives: To determine whether music significantly reduces the pain and anxiety associated with laceration repair in emergency department. Participants setting: Adult patients presenting to ED at an urban teaching hospital for repair. Exclusion criteria included less than 18 years old, having received analgesics, suspected alcohol or substance intoxication, whom was complicated by treatment of a more serious medical condition. Design interventions: This randomized, controlled trial. After giving informed consent, were randomly assigned receive standard without (control) music. Patients group chose audio tape from 50 available styles artists. through headset, they volume. Intradermal lidocaine used all patients. Data collected on heart rate, blood pressure, respirations just before immediately after wound Psychological variables state subscale Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), visual analog scale rating, brief questionnaire. STAI ratings analyzed Wilcoxon's ranksum test α error .05. Results: Thirty-eight (19 per group) completed protocol. Pain scores (P Conclusion: Music provides safe, inexpensive, effective adjunct management but does not affect anxiety.
