摘要: Abstract Cortical abnormalities are considered a neurobiological characteristic of schizophrenia. However, the pattern such deficits as they progress over illness remains poorly understood. The goal this project was to assess progression cortical thinning in frontal and temporal regions schizophrenia, determine whether relationships exist between them neuropsychological clinical symptom profiles. As part larger longitudinal 2-year follow-up study, schizophrenia (n = 20) healthy participants group-matched for age, gender, recent-alcohol use, were selected. Using MRI, estimates gray matter thickness derived from primary anatomical gyri lobes using surface-based algorithms. These values entered into repeated-measures analysis variance models group status time effects. Change correlated with changes functioning symptomatology. Results revealed exaggerated middle frontal, superior temporal, participants. strongly influenced volumetric reductions, but not related shrinking surface area. Neuropsychological profiles stable despite these neuroanatomic changes. Overall it appears that ongoing cerebral cortex continue after initial onset particularly lateral aspects regions, do relate or measures time. Maintenance performance stability face changing neuroanatomical structure suggests involvement alternative compensatory mechanisms.
