摘要: Background The American Cancer Society, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute (NCI), North Association of Central Registries (NAACCR) collaborate annually to update cancer rates trends in United States. This report updates statistics on lung, female breast, prostate, colorectal cancers highlights uses selected surveillance data assist development state-based control plans. Methods Age-adjusted incidence from 1996 through 2000 are state metropolitan area registries that met NAACCR criteria highest quality. Death based underlying cause-of-death data. Long-term major racial ethnic populations NCI CDC Incidence 1975 were adjusted reporting delays. State-specific screening risk factor survey other federal private organizations. Results all sites combined increased mid-1970s 1992 then decreased 1995. Observed essentially stable 1995 2000, whereas delay-adjusted trend showed an increase had borderline statistical significance (P =.05). Increases breast women prostate men offset a long-term decrease lung men. beginning 1994 stabilized 1998 resulting part recent revisions codes. among continued decline throughout 1990s, death unchanged 2000. Analysis leading revealed mixed progress achieving national objectives improving screening, reduction, decreases mortality. Conclusions Overall began stabilize mid- late 1990s. will require monitoring with additional years Further reduction burden is possible but continuation strong federal, state, local, partnerships dissemination evidence-based programs segments population.
