High-energy protons in the postoperative treatment of malignant glioma.

摘要: Fractionated irradiation with high-energy protons was given postoperatively to seven patients malignant glioma. In four cases in which detailed microscopic examinations were performed, radiation induced tumour necrosis evident but all viable cells also observed. No abnormalities that could be attributed observed brain tissue free from tumour. The therapeutic results comparable the achieved by other modern therapies. support view RBE of is similar for 60Co radiation. It suggested a larger dose, delivered homogeneous, well-defined proton field possibly result an improved without undue risk injury normal tissue.
