摘要: The aim of this study was to explore the differential diagnostic value PET using amino acid O-(2-18F-fluoroethyl)-l-tyrosine (18F-FET) in patients with newly diagnosed solitary intracerebral lesions showing ring enhancement on contrast-enhanced MRI. Methods:18F-FET analyses were performed 14 consecutive ring-enhancing lesions. Eleven additionally studied 18F-FDG PET. In all patients, main diagnosis after MRI a malignant lesion, particular glioblastoma multiforme, versus benign brain abscess. A tumor suspected for increased 18F-FET uptake images mean lesion-to-brain ratio at least 1.6 (18F-FET positive). nonneoplastic lesion cases minimal or absent uptake, less than negative). Histologic obtained by serial biopsies 13 patients. One patient refused biopsy, but follow-up indicated an abscess because his regressed under antibiotic therapy. Results: Histology and clinical showed high-grade gliomas 5 9 findings positive glioma 3 lesions, including 2 abscesses 1 demyelinating lesion. (mean lesion-to-gray matter ≥ 0.7) 4 7 Conclusion: Although has been shown be valuable evaluation tumors, our data indicate that, like PET, limited specificity distinguishing between neoplastic Thus, histologic investigation biopsy specimens remains mandatory make important diagnosis.
