摘要: BACKGROUND Leaves of artichoke (Cynara cardunculus L. subsp. scolymus (L.) Hegi) and cardoon var. altilis DC) are traditionally used as herbal medicine. Moderate salt stress could enhance antioxidant activity phytochemicals in leaves. The aim this study was to evaluate the effect chloride salts (NaCl, KCl CaCl2) on biomass production, mineral composition, phenolic flavonoid contents leaves grown a floating system. RESULTS In both crops, NaCl treatments reduced while similar values were recorded CaCl2 control treatments. In treatment enhanced total contents, target polyphenols harvested at 48, 82 105 days after sowing (DAS), leaf quality improved by only DAS. Irrespective salinity, had higher than those artichoke. CONCLUSION The results showed that application can be considered an effective way produce high-quality during whole cropping cycle, although resulting 30% reduction plant biomass. © 2013 Society Chemical Industry
