摘要: Abstract Purpose: Structural changes in muscles may affect the process during and after distraction osteogenesis (DO) of mandible. However, response masticatory is still not well defined gradual lengthening In this experimental study, short-term structural masseter rabbits are evaluated mandibular DO. Materials Methods: Left mandibles 10 New Zealand were lengthened by DO for 7 days rate 1 mm/day. Mandibles all animals removed at end consolidation period. Muscle biopsy samples distracted contralateral sides histopathologically investigated, histomorphometric results statistically analyzed. Results: Atrophy, hypertrophy, regeneration, concomitant mild interstitial edema fibrosis found more evident side 30 distraction. Histomorphometric analysis revealed a significant decrease mean regions muscle fibers compared with control ( P Conclusion: This study showed that structure influenced shortly osteogenesis. Atrophic ipsilateral be regarded as regenerative occurs © 2003 American Association Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons J Maxillofac Surg 61:615-620,
