摘要: Tumor-initiating cells (TICs) are defined by their ability to form tumors after xenotransplantation in immunodeficient mice and appear be relatively rare most human cancers. Recent data melanoma indicate that the frequency of TICs increases dramatically via more permissive conditions, raising possibility true has been greatly underestimated tumors. We compared growth pancreatic, non-small cell lung, head neck carcinomas NOD/SCID NSG mice. Although TIC was detected up 10-fold higher mice, it remained low (<1 2500 cells) all cases. Moreover, aldehyde dehydrogenase-positive (ALDH(+)) CD44(+)CD24(+) cells, phenotypically distinct enriched TICs, were equally tumorigenic Our findings demonstrate these cancers identification other malignancies should validated primary highly conditions.
