Evaluation of the stability of neuropsychological functioning after acute episodes of schizophrenia: One-year followup study

摘要: Abstract Few studies have evaluated the longitudinal stability of neuropsychological deficits in schizophrenia. In present study, 39 inpatients with DSM-III-R schizophrenia were administered a comprehensive battery tests after achieving sufficient clinical recovery to warrant discharge, and again 1 year first assessment during nonacute period. Significant improvement functioning from second was observed on several tasks, including following: Traits A B, Digit Symbol, Judgment Line Orientation, recognition memory Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test, Wisconsin Card Sort, Finger Tapping. These improvements unrelated treatment history, similar episode chronic cases. For many patients, brought test performance into line normative scores standardization samples. results indicate that considerable can occur schizophrenic patients over months following an acute illness, cognitive substantial illness has already been achieved.
