摘要: Patients with high-grade astrocytomas have a poor prognosis. However, considerable variation exists within this group of patients respect to post-operative survival. In order determine whether genetic alterations might be help in subdividing group, we used allele loss on chromosomes 10 and 17p epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene amplification the tumours as parameters determined their prognostic value. A series 47 malignant (grade III grade IV) were genetically characterised, four types found. Type 1 had heterozygosity chromosome arm (LOH 17p) sole alteration. type tumour relatively young (mean age 39 years) median survival period 17 months. 2 displayed only 10), 3 LOH + 4 contained EGFR amplification. 2, older ages 59, 65 54 years respectively) shorter (median duration 6, months than patients. Multivariate analysis indicated that subdivision was significant variable. study, proved minor importance regard Our study revealed predominance frontally located tumours, i.e. only.
