Overcoming the challenges of bedside teaching in the palliative care setting

摘要: Bedside teaching is the process of active learning in presence a patient and one most traditional techniques used undergraduate medicine. Students patients both appear to benefit from experience bedside teaching. However, with medical students palliative care presents number challenges for patient, learner educator. Key considerations context include: sensitivity ‘protection’, by colleagues relation their involvement teaching; consideration patient9s carer/relative as they will often be present prolonged periods at bedside; maximum or two (not ‘up six’ traditionally this type teaching); multiple short encounters several opposed longer encounter patient; potential impact session on junior doctors may find that while worthwhile rewarding, also personally emotionally challenging.
