摘要: Evidence is accumulating supporting gender-related differences in the development of colonic carcinomas. Sex steroid hormone receptors are expressed colon and interact with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a gene widely tissue. Increased EGFR expression linked poor prognosis cancer. Within there two functional polymorphisms interest: polymorphism located at codon 497 (HER-1 R497K) dinucleotide (CA)(n) repeat within intron 1. These germ-line were analyzed genomic DNA from 318 metastatic cancer patients, 177 males 141 females, collected 1992 to 2003. Gender-related survival associated HER-1 R497K (P(interaction) = 0.003). Females Arg/Arg variant had better overall (OS) when compared Lys/Lys and/or Lys/Arg variants. In opposite was true. The also trended OS difference 0.11). both short or=20 repeats. Combination analysis taken together revealed same 0.002). associations observed using multivariable analysis. not linkage disequilibrium independent one another. This study supports role as prognostic markers As factor, these variants implications based on gender.
