摘要: Photonic materials--materials that interact strongly with light--may be the key to controlling and exploiting light in future optical devices. In analogy electronic band gap insulators semiconductors, materials a photonic can constructed, applications for example novel fibers or lasers. Another type of material exploits surface properties negative dielectric constant (such as most metals), which lead nonlinear effects allowing focusing radiative energy very small volumes. Future switching, another important aspect technology, envisioned.
