摘要: This study reports on the Rocca di Cave extensional fault system, which is located in Prenestini Mountains (Central Italy) of Apennines fold-and-thrust belt and presently represents oldest exposure early orogenic foreland system Apennines. was oriented perpendicular to strike foredeep-peripheral bulge indicating that onset convergence marked by a foredeep-parallel extension, instead commonly observed foredeep-perpendicular stretching associated with lithosphere flexuring. The studied formed 10 km long 2 km wide E-W elongated area includes two mutually orthogonal sets faults about N-S, respectively. and, mainly, N-S striking developed during preorogenic (Santonian Campanian age) extension kinematics, caused first uplift erosion then drowning Cretaceous carbonate platform pelagic environment. Both were later reactivated Miocene, when forming part region ahead eastward migrating undergoing local oriented, i.e., foredeep-parallel, stretching. stage implied sedimentation hundreds meters synkinematic strata northern block Fault System, coevally episodes subaerial areas southern block. Further right-lateral reactivation inherited occurred late progressive incorporation into belt.
