摘要: Abstract Purpose Older age is associated with lower rates of breast reconstruction (BR) for women requiring mastectomy. The purpose was to assess the available evidence on uptake, outcome and quality life (QoL) after BR in older women. Methods A systematic literature review performed via Medline, Embase Cochrane databases using search terms reconstruction, cancer, Eligible studies reported BR, different reconstructive techniques, complication rates, and/or patient measures (PROMs) aged 60 years or undergoing mastectomy ductal carcinoma situ invasive carcinoma. Results total 42 eligible were included, 32 these reporting 10 complications, four PROMs. 24,746 cases 407,570 patients from 1987 2012. Implant based more common than autologous techniques. Mostly, not higher women, QoL outcomes similar younger Conclusions This confirms that are despite recent demonstrating its efficacy. perception among some surgeons potential risks outweigh benefits needs be revisited. Education consumers along public advocacy offering all clinically most promising means changing practice.
