摘要: The advent of advanced molecular genetics methods has revolutionized biology, both in terms identifying gene candidates and, once identified, manipulating function the experimental setting to address issues causality and mechanism. Mice are currently most genetically tractable animal model available have contributed significantly furthering our understanding action across multiple areas biology medicine. However, using mice psychiatric conditions raises particular challenges because complex perhaps unique phenotypes affected by disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, personality disorder. In this chapter, we present a realistic view what can be modeled area. We discuss concept endophenotypes (intermediate traits), how used complexity clinical conditions. also practicalities carrying out valid behavioral studies mice, taking raised ethobiological vs artificial approach debate emphasize positive contribution made increasing use operant paradigms mice. conclude that, although very much at “work progress” stage, it is likely that mouse models will major importance ensuring psychiatry gets its share genomic dividend.
