Longlook: Initial outcomes of a longitudinal integrated rural clinical placement program

摘要: Objective To assess outcomes in terms of academic performance and subsequent career choice medical students undertaking a longitudinal integrated rural clinical placement. Design This was retrospective, observational, cohort study. Setting The ‘Longlook’ program is placement run collaboratively by Griffith University, Queensland Rural Medical Education Health as part the program. Participants Participants this study were completing years 3 4 between 2010 2013. Assessment data available for 683 participants, internship location all 472 allocated within (87% graduated students). Interventions Introduction Longlook program. Main outcome measures The primary measures overall assessments, intern (rural versus urban). Results When prior year taken into account, there no statistically significant differences or urban students. Of who have graduated, 31/46 (67%) undertaken at compared with 63/426 (15%) hospital-based (odds ratio 11.91; 95% confidence interval 6.08–23.32). Conclusions We demonstrated that it feasible to implement parallel an established conventional postgraduate provide similar learning outcomes. Initial findings suggest experience translating positive future careers settings. There need reappraise structure initiatives aimed promoting medicine.
