摘要: Background: Lactate concentration often is quantified in systemically ill dogs and interpreted based on human data. To our knowledge, there are no published clinical studies evaluating serial lactate concentrations as a prognostic indicator dogs. Objectives: Our objective was to perform prospective study, using multivariate analysis, determine whether were associated with outcome requiring intravenous fluids. Methods: Eighty sick had evaluated, an analyzer that measures the plasma fraction of heparinized whole blood, at 0 hours 6 after initiation treatment. Severity illness (survivor, nonsurvivor) determined by reviewing patient’s record 2 weeks admission. concentrations, age, body weight, gender, severity evaluated analysis their effects outcome. Results: Dogs greater than reference interval 16 times (95% confidence 5 2.32‐112.71 times, P , .01) more likely not survive compared within interval. above significantly related However, hyperlactatemia did improve 50% mortality (P .024). Conclusion: higher survive. These results indicate association between emphasize importance prognosis. (Vet Clin Pathol. 2007;36:234‐239) 2007 American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology
