摘要: Abstract Damage compensation schemes are widely used to mitigate human–wildlife conflicts. Despite the growing relevance of such conflicts, a theoretical framework analyze cost-effectiveness damage is still missing. The article aims fill this gap by proposing conceptual categorizing cost categories, which can be compare different types schemes. To demonstrate value framework, we present an example that compares ex-post and in advance European otter (Lutra lutra) Upper Lusatia, Germany. We find two differ their transaction costs. Transaction costs themselves closely related temporal spatial distribution damages. Therefore, choice between depends on damages, itself species under concern. Based this, recommend compensation-in-advance type scheme for
