摘要: Background A systematic review of the literature on mental disorder in prisoners, published 2002, made no mention post-traumatic stress (PTSD), but indicators from other studies suggest that a history serious and chronic trauma is common among offenders. Aims To conduct with specific questions: does any epidemiological study sentenced prisoners include data prevalence PTSD while prison? If so, what this group? Method Literature databases EMBASE, Medline, PsychInfo, PILOTS SIGLE were searched. The Journal Traumatic Stress was searched manually. Preliminary screening conducted by reading abstracts hundreds papers. Ten exclusion criteria then applied to screened selection. Reference sections all accessed papers for further studies. Results One hundred three potentially relevant identified after preliminary screening. Four met inclusion suffered none criteria. rates ranged 4% sample 21%. Women disproportionately affected. Conclusions implications practice All four suggested higher than general population, as reported elsewhere. Overall findings likely need treatment services prisoners.
