摘要: Endangered species protection is a significant risk management concern throughout North America. An extensive conceptual literature emphasizes the role to be played by precautionary approaches. Risk managers, typically working in concert with concerned stakeholders, frequently cite concept as key their efforts prevent extinctions. Little has been done, however, evaluate multidimensional impacts of frameworks or assist examination competing options part an applied decision framework. In this article we describe how decision-aiding techniques can creation and analysis alternative strategies, using example multistakeholder committee charged endangered Cultus Lake salmon on Canadian west coast. Although managers were required adopt approach, little attention had given quantitative analyses could used help define approach might implemented face difficult economic, social, biological tradeoffs. We briefly review steps structured decision-making (SDM) process discuss was bound problem, objectives performance measures, develop alternatives, consequences. highlight strategy tables, employed participants identify, options. close noting areas agreement disagreement among implications decision-focused processes for other resource efforts.
