摘要: Background: Skeletal muscle (SM) is an important body-composition component that remains difficult and impractical to quantify by most investigators outside of specialized research centers, A large proportion total-body SM found in the extremities, a extremity lean soft tissue SM. strong link should thus exist between appendicular (ALST) mass mass. Objective: The objective was develop prediction models linking ALST estimated dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) with quantified multislice magnetic resonance imaging healthy adults. Design: were evaluated cross-sectional design adults [body index (in kg/m 2 ) < 35] SM-prediction model developed validated model-development model-validation groups, respectively. groups included 321 93 ethnically diverse adults, Results: alone highly correlated (model 1: R = 0.96, SEE 1.63 kg, P 0.001), although multiple regression analyses showed additional predictor variables: age 2: 2-variable combined 1.58 0.001) sex 3: 3-variable 0.001). All 3 performed well validation group. An based on SM-ALST ratio also developed, this had limitations when it applied across all subjects. Conclusion: Total-body can be accurately predicted from DXA-estimated ALST, affording practical means quantifying clinically compartment.
