Cultural and Cognitive Predictors of Academic Motivation Among Mexican American Adolescents: Caution Against Discounting the Impact of Cultural Processes

摘要: This study examined the role of cognitive (i.e., grit, hope, and academic skepticism) cultural variables generational status, familismo, ethnic identity, bicultural stress) on motivation among 181 Mexican American adolescents. Results indicated that familismo positively predicted motivation. Conversely, skepticism stress negatively demonstrates culture is important to consider above beyond variables. Implications for practice research are discussed. Este estudio examino la influencia que ejercen las cognitivas (determinacion, esperanza y escepticismo academico) culturales (estatus generacional, identidad etnica estres bicultural) sobre motivacion academica en adolescentes mexicano-americanos. Los resultados indicaron esperanza, determinacion el pronosticaron positivamente academica. Y a inversa, academico negativamente Este demuestra es importante considerar cultura ademas de cognitivas.
