This chapter briefly discusses rationale for PET and describes how it differs from more typical anatomic imaging, reviews principles metabolic targeting with radiolabeled glucose analogue 18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (FDG), then clinical results several types common Although there are detailed descriptions tumor other modalities areas this textbook, discussion here focuses on role PET.
